1. Are you qualified to take graduate courses in optical sciences at the University of Arizona?
Applicants to this program should hold a BS degree in engineering, physics, mathematics or a related field. If you have questions about your qualifications, contact the Optical Sciences Center (carl.maes@optics.arizona.edu).
2. Get admitted to the University of Arizona Graduate College:
You must be admitted to the UA Graduate College as a degree or non-degree student before you can take any optical sciences courses for credit at the University of Arizona.
- Graduate students who have been admitted to the UA Graduate College for the current semester or who took a class in the previous semester – go to Step 3.
- Not admitted? Apply on-line as a Graduate Non-Degree Seeking Student at the UA Graduate College. https://apply.grad.arizona.edu/
3. Want to apply for a degree program?
Read about the M.S. in Optical Sciences with distance learning options. (If you want to start distance courses before you are accepted into a degree program, make sure you’re admitted as a Graduate Non-degree student – see Step 2).

6. Ready to register for a class?
- Select a course from this semester’s course list. Further course descriptions/information about Optical Sciences Courses offered through Distance Learning may be found here.
- Complete the Optical Sciences Graduate Distance Courses registration form
and fax or mail it to Distance Learning.
- If you’re selecting the tuition payment plan, complete the UA Distance Learning Tuition Payment Plan Enrollment Form
and include it with your first payment.
- Mail or fax the form(s) together with your payment to UA Distance Learning (see contact information, below).
- If you’re applying for admission to the Graduate College and/or to the professional certificate program, you can include these forms and payments with your registration materials. Remember - if you’re including your Graduate Non-degree Admission form with your original signature, you’ll have to mail the materials or bring them in to our office.
