The Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Major in Interdisciplinary Studies

The UA interdisciplinary studies major (IDS) is more flexible than a traditional major/minor program. You can customize your IDS program by combining studies in a variety of disciplines applicable to your career goals.

Working with an advisor, you'll design a program focusing on three subject areas – two from the humanities, science, or social and behavioral science colleges and the third from any other UA college. Subject areas available through the UA Evening & Weekend Campus include (click to see scheduled classes):

IDS Proposal
As you plan your course of study, you will write a proposal justifying your choices and outlining your goals. The EWC advisor can help you get started. Most students find this process clarifies their objectives and sharpens their appreciation of a broad-based liberal arts education.

Preparation
Most EWC students have completed lower-division requirements (courses at the 100 and 200 levels) at another institution before starting IDS studies at the University of Arizona. You will find only a few courses at those levels in the EWC schedule.

If you have little or no college experience, call an EWC advisor at 626-8201 to learn about Pima Community College and other options for completing lower-division requirements.

Why an IDS Major?
Design your own career path to suit your unique skill and knowledge requirements.

The interdisciplinary studies major is versatile and individual. You can tailor your studies according to your particular needs, experience, interests, and goals.
